Level up your festival experience - hire a motorhome

Forget the cramped quarters of a tent or the hassle of overpriced hotels far from the action. When it comes to festivals - and even sporting events - there's a luxurious alternative that offers comfort, convenience, and a touch of VIP treatment: motorhome hire.

Confession time. I’ve only camped at one festival, but that was enough. The space they give you is so tiny and cramped. It’s easy to forget where you’ve actually pitched your tent - especially if you come back at night. And it’s so noisy throughout the entire night.

A friend who does Glastonbury on a regular basis said her festival experience totally changed when she rented a motorhome with friends. Not only did it mean they had an actual bed each night, but they could stay in the campervan pitch, which not only had the water, waste-water container and toilets, but also a 24 hour food trader.

So if you’re off to Glastonbury, Latitude or even a Grand Prix this year, here’s why you should hire a motorhome…

  • Home away from home: Festivals can be long, tiring events. A motorhome provides a proper bed, a kitchen to whip up meals, a bathroom for on-demand convenience, and even lounging areas to relax between sets or races. Oh and let’s not forget the chance to have a shower away from the not-so-clean communal wash areas.

  • Prime position: Sometimes the campervan sites are in a better position than the regular camping pitches. This means you'll be steps away from the festival stages or the roar of the racetrack, no more long walks or crowded shuttle rides.

  • Group getaways made easy: Motorhomes come in various sizes, comfortably accommodating families or groups of friends - both Skylark and Kestrel sleep four comfortably. This means you can not only enjoy the shared experience together, but also split the costs.

  • Festival essentials on wheels: No more lugging camping gear across the festival grounds. Your motorhome becomes your personal storage unit, keeping all your supplies, chairs, and festival essentials close at hand - and safely locked away.. And most festivals, like Glastonbury, have extra security around the campervan pitches so you know your stuff is safe.

  • Escape the elements: Festival weather can be unpredictable. A motorhome provides a climate-controlled haven to escape the rain, scorching sun, or cool evenings.

Which festivals can you take a motorhome to?

All the major music festivals allow you to park on site, but don’t forget if you hire one of Skylark & Co’s vans, you’ll also get membership to the Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite+ scheme allowing you access to lots of campsite across the UK, meaning you can always park up and instead use a day ticket for the festival.

These are the just some of the festivals that allow you bring campervans:

Ready to rev up your festival experience? Here are some tips…

The biggest tip I can share - book well in advance, especially for popular events, as motorhomes are a sought-after option. Skylark & Co only have two RVs for hire so once you’ve got your tickets, contact Vicky to book.

Many festival campervan sites don’t provide electricity points, however, that’s not a problem for Skylark & Co’s vans. Both of them have solar panels, leisure batteries and LPG gas for running the heating, shower, fridge/freezer and cooker.

Don’t forget that you’ll often have to buy a separate motorhome ticket to be able to rock up in a RV. Double check this before you make any bookings. If you want a good spot, aim to arrive early. Big festivals like Glastonbury often have huge queues to gain access to the camping areas, so be prepared to wait.

Worried you’ll lose where you are? Take a flag or banner and attach it to the RV. You might have to bring rope to secure it as not all festivals allow flagpoles.

Each festival will have their own terms & conditions about whether you use gas canisters, have barbecues or use an awning. Double check these before you hit the road.
