And there’s something really special about that feeling that we wanted to bring back to our motorhome rentals – which is why we’ve created our very own postcards.
When you rent either Skylark or Kestrel, you’ll find these gorgeous postcards on board. Designed by Change Design, they feature an illustration of our camper vans, as well as that all-important space on the reverse to write your holiday message.
A little bit of postcard history
The postcard we know today has its roots in the mid-19th century. Early ideas for a mail-ready card emerged in the 19th century, with forerunners like illustrated envelopes. In 1869, Austria-Hungary took the plunge and issued the first official postcard, sparking a revolution in communication. These early cards were simple, but cheap postage made them wildly popular.
By the late 1800s, postcards were adorned with all sorts of illustrations, from scenic views to humorous cartoons. The ability to collect and trade these cards added to the craze.
Sadly, the humble postcard is not as popular anymore. A survey done last year by Insure and Go found that only 18% of the population send postcards while on holiday. The same survey found that massive 41% of respondents would love to receive postcards more often, saying it made them feel happy, remembered and loved.
