West Dorset - Highlands end; campsite review

Skylark at Highlands End, Bridport

Highlands End HOLIDAY PARK,

Bridport, West Dorset

One of West Dorset Leisure Holidays’ sites, this well-maintained campsite is in a beautiful location on the cliffs above Bridport, Dorset. Though it’s large, the landscaping means it doesn’t feel impersonal and you don’t feel hemmed in either. Equally important, the clever use of hedges and the contours of the site protect you from the wind if it picks up during your stay.

We visited in early June and the Holiday Park was calm in the day and quiet at night, with plenty of staff around should you need any help. There is easy access to service points and each of the gravel pitches has its own grass space alongside where you can park a second vehicle or just spread out and relax.

Washing facilities and loos are accessible and clean. The communal sinks had a map of the area to look at while you washed up!

The site itself has a bar, restaurant and indoor pool as well as an on-site shop. We didn’t use these but their popularity suggests they offer what folk are looking for. Instead, we chose to head off for a day’s cycling exploring the myriad bridleways, byways and quiet lanes in the area. If you’d like to try our loop, you can find it here on our Komoot Collection.

The Holiday Park has a secure field for exercising dogs and a path takes you down to the beautiful Eype beach.

Highlands End Holiday Park is open all year round and has plenty to offer regardless of the season.

Nearby

Bridport, a lovely market town, is very close to Highlands End. It has a mix of shops and cafes and is known for it’s market.

We always make time for a visit to Symondsbury Estate. The restaurant offers delicious meals throughout the day with a great range of dishes from local produce. The Estate has some lovely shops and a gallery and a number of walks and cycle paths. You will also find Shutes Lane on the Estate - one of the finest holloways we’ve ever seen; truly magical.

Lyme Regis is just along the coast. Another bustling town, we love heading to Swim for meal.

Below are a selection of photos from our visit to Symondsbury Estate.
