Here’s why hiring a motorhome in winter is the ultimate adventure

Summer is the traditional season for going on a motorhome holiday, however, don’t dismiss the cooler months for a road trip with a difference. Yes, you might not be able to sunbathe on scenic beaches or enjoy a sundowner barbecue, but there are some definite bonuses to hiring a RV in the cooler months.

1. Avoid the crowds

Popular tourist destinations are much less crowded in the off-season. This means you'll have more space to enjoy the sights and sounds of your destination without having to elbow your way through throngs of tourists. You'll also be able to find more campsites and RV parks with availability.

2. It’s cost-effective

RV rental rates and campground fees are typically much lower in the winter compared to the peak summer season. This makes winter RVing a more affordable option, especially for families and budget-conscious travelers. You can also save money on petrol by avoiding long drives to crowded summer destinations.

Our low season runs from November to March and costs just £99 a night (for a minimum of three nights).

3. Experience different weather

The off-season is a great time to experience a different side of your favorite destinations. In the autumn, you can enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage. In the winter, you can go perhaps enjoy some snow. In the early days of spring, you can see the flowers bloom.

4. You can Chill (though not literally!)

Winter RVing is a chance to truly escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with yourself and your loved ones. The off-season is a great time to relax and unwind. With fewer crowds and less to do, you can simply enjoy the peace and quiet of being on the road. You can also take your time and explore at your own pace.

Let’s also not forget the spacious saloon areas in both of our RVs, where you can sit and read or curl up and watch something. Thanks to the unlimited wi-fi that we offer in both motorhomes (while in the UK), you can stream your favourite films, video call friends or even do some work - not that we recommend the last bit! The heating is also super efficient and economical to run, meaning you’ll feel super cosy regardless of the weather.

“Off-season is our favourite time to go away in the motorhome; we stock up the freezer with meals from Cook and pack the walking boots, bikes, coats and hats into the garage and lockers,” says Vicky, Co-Founder of Skylark & Co.

“After a blustery walk or bike ride, there’s nothing better than curling up in a snug motorhome with a cuppa and your book, while your food sorts itself out in the oven!”
